Supermarket giant ASDA cut the price by another ?50

The Wii U has been reduced in price in the UK for thesecond time in less than two months. Yesterday, supermarket giant ASDA started selling theWii U 8GB Basic bundle for £149.99, a reduction of £50. Other online retailers have followed ASDA’s lead, such asPlay.comandAmazon.co.uk.

The price cuts only seem to be matched by a few retailers this time, instead of the range of price cuts that happened in the UK in March. PC World has the sameWii U Basic bundle for £224.99and the Wii U Premium bundles appear to have retained their price. Nintendo Direct has reported the Premium Bundle was reduced in price too but ASDA’s online store shows no listings for that bundle.

Given that it’s just the Basic bundle that’s been cut in price, I’m assuming this is a way of making the Wii U more appealing to a casual audience that’s so far not shown a great interest in the console. That’s a fair amount of money knocked off the price of the console since launch, so I’m wondering if we’re going tohear retailers change their tune on the Wii U.
