During Sony’s E3 2012 press conference, the company was eager to talk aboutcross-platform functionalitybetween the PlayStation 3 and its Vita compadre, implying that anything the Wii U could do, its console/handheld hybridization could do better. Now, Scott Rhode has dropped the implication and simplysaidit — the PS Vita can do things the Wii U can’t.
“Because we have the Vita, I think we can do a lot of special things,” Sony’s worldwide studios VP toldGI.biz. “And remember, that Wii U tablet doesn’t have a processor in it, so it’s got to be fueled by that box sitting under your TV.We can do some pretty special things that you’ll start to see on the floor this year and you’ll see more over the upcoming months about what you can do when you actually have a processor in the thing that’s in your hand as well.

“When you start to see how you can cross over between the two platforms — look at two of the titles that are here at E3,PlayStation All-StarsandSly 4, for example. Both available on Vita and PS3, and there’s some sort of interactivity across the board. Developers are interested in that kind of stuff.”
Iwantto be excited about cross-platform, but the problem is that not only do you need to buy two separate systems, you’re expected to buy separategamesto take full advantage. If the PS3 version came with a code for the Vita version, this would be a fantastic idea. Until then, it’s far less useful to me than what the Wii U is planning.
