Polytron producer surprised by FEZ II cancellation

It was shocking to seeFezdesigner Phil Fishannounce both his departurefrom the games industry and the cancellation ofFEZ II, a project we knew little about but one I really would’ve liked to see come to fruition. The news also came as a surprise to Polytron producer Marie-Christine Bourdua andFezprogrammer Renaud Bédard, who “[learned] it the same minute you did,” according toJoystiq.

“The development ofFEZ IIis up to him,” said Bédard. “If he decided [to cancel it] now or he decided it at the end of development, it’s easier to cut it out now, than it is to say ‘Hey, we’ve been working on this for years and I’m not feeling able to finish it.’ So in that way it just makes more sense.” Bourdua told the outlet that “I respect and trust Phil a lot, so that’s totally fair that he decided that and he has his reasons.”

As for the originalFez, Mac and Linux versions are still being developed and “there’s other stuff on the way, too,” according to Bourdua. Polytron is said to be “working with Sony,” which suggests good things to me, but who knows. Either way, Bédard promises that “announcements are going to come really, really soon.”
