TheFleabagstar could write for a new Lara Croft series

A new retelling of Lara Croft’s tale could be on the way from an interesting angle. According to a new report, Phoebe Waller-Bridge has been picked up to work on aTomb RaiderTV series for Amazon.

According toThe Hollywood Reporter, Waller-Bridge is reportedly attached to write the scripts for theTomb Raiderproject. She’d also be on as executive producer, alongside Ryan Andolina and Amanda Greenblatt. She is not, according to THR’s report, currently signed on to star in the adaptation.

Waller-Bridgerecently renewed a dealwith Amazon, which also brought her onto the adaptation of the novelSign Hereby Claudia Lux. She’s garnered acclaim for her work on the TV seriesFleabag, is set to star in the upcomingIndiana Jonesfilm, and co-wrote the Bond flickNo Time to Die.

Meanwhile, Lara Croft has seen several adaptations over the years. The video game series has been turned into two different movie runs, one starring Angelina Jolie and the other Alicia Vikander. There’s alsoan animated Lara Croft serieson the way, with Hayley Atwell on as the voice of the Tomb Raider herself.

This adds to the growing number of video game adaptations currently out or in development. Amazon itself has aGod of Warshowlocked in for Prime Video, though not too many details are out on that just yet.Tomb Raidermakes sense for Amazon though, seeing as itsalso working with Crystal Dynamicsto help publish the next installment of the games.

The Last of Usis currently airing on HBO, and anUnchartedmovie is already out. Plus, there are several other PlayStation productions in store, aRainbow Sixfilmon the way, and aBorderlandsmoviestill in production.

There’s no shortage of new video game adaptations on the horizon. But aTomb Raiderseries from the creator behindFleabag? I’m certainly interested to see how this one turns out.
