Giving consumers options
Yesterday, Nintendo announced the New 3DS XL for North America. It’s coming out February 13 for $200.
Dampening this excitement was word that Nintendo hasno plans to releasethe smaller size New 3DS in North America. That and theMajora’s Mask3DSselling out in 15 minutes, before the West Coast was awake, and then selling out quicklyagain in the afternoon. Hope we helped some of yous get in on the latter.

Perhaps looked over in the uproar is that the New 3DS XL does not include an AC adapter in North America or Europe. If you don’t already have a DSi or 3DS charger, you’ll have to buy onefrom Nintendo for $10(or risk a third party blowing out your system or voiding your warranty). A similar situation occurred with theoriginal 3DS XL, with Japan and Europe cutting the adapter to cut costs.
Nintendo issued a statement to Polygon stating, “Rather than raise cost of New Nintendo 3DS XL by charging consumers for a component they may already own, we are giving them the option to only buy if they need an AC adapter.” So they axed the charger to sneak one penny under $200. $199.99doeslook cheaper, doesn’t it?
