It’s hard to concentrate on the future of theLike a Dragonseries when we’re already staring down the barrel ofPirate Yakuza in Hawaii. With the side story setting sail for launch next month, now is the perfect time for a new Like a Dragon Direct presentation.
That certainly sounds like it’ll be the main focus of the next video from SEGA and the folks at Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. The Like a Dragon Direct is set to start streaming viaYouTubeandTwitchon January 9 at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time.

According to the description, the video will “reveal various updates and first-looks at new features” forLike a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. Considering how much there typically is to do in one of these games — even the spinoffs — the results could end up being fairly exhaustive. AFamitsuinterview with Ryu Ga Gotoku boss Masayoshi Yokoyamarecently revealedthatPirate Yakuzawill be even longer thanLike a Dragon: The Man Who Erased His Name.
While this spinoff is enough to fill out a full presentation and then some, we’ll have to watch and see if the team has any surprises in store. Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is already staying plenty busy beyond the mainLike a Dragonseries, and The Game Awards 2024 saw both a newVirtua Fighterandthe currently enigmaticProject Centuryannounced. The latter is a period piece set in 1915, and the former is, well,Virtua Fighter.

In the meantime, we can focus onLike a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, which heads for ridiculously choppy waters on February 21.
