That is one big pile of… games

Did you know the 30th anniversary of theJurassic Parkfilm is coming up? Holygosh,I am so old! Limited Run Games seems willing to sacrifice this horrible entropy by bringing us a collection of “classic”Jurassic Parktitles. They’veteased uswithThe Jurassic Park 30th Anniversary Retro Collection, but we’ll have to wait until June to get more info.

The bad news is that only the titles developed by Ocean are teased. The good news is they’re not all bad, and the SNES version is among them.

I’ve spentmore timethan I ever imaginedtalking aboutthe 1993 SNES version ofJurassic Park. It isn’t great and has many problems, but you can tell the developers had serious passion for the project. It uses ray-casting to create first-person indoor environments the same yearDoomcame out, and there are several small touches that give it life.

I can’t really speak for the rest of the games. The NES and Game Boy versions of the first title are extremely similar.Jurassic Park Part 2: The Chaos Continuesis different on SNES and Game Boy. They’re side-scrollers, and despite the title, they’re not really sequels in terms of style or mechanics. I own the SNES version but haven’t played it for more than a few minutes. It’s very difficult to get over the disappointment of it not being a continuation of the previous SNES title.

Beyond the tease and the promise that they’ll announce more in June, Limited Run is being tight-lipped on what they intend to do with these titles. They say it will beThe Jurassic Park 30th Anniversary Retro Collection, but will it be reproductions of these titles or a release on current consoles? They say we’ll see it later this year.
