Like those who like Uncharted or The Division

It has been almost five full months sinceMetal Gear Solidcreator Hideo Kojima’s contract with Konami formally ended. In that time, we have learned very little about Kojima’s next venture. It wasimmediately revealedthat he rebooted Kojima Productions and is partnering with Sony for the project, but specifics have gone unmentioned.

In an interview with Famitsu (and translated byGematsu), Kojima talks a bit about who’s going to be interested in this next game. “While not to say that it’s open-world, users who enjoy today’s AAA games (The DivisionandUncharted, etc.) will be able to easily enjoy it. When it is announced, you might think ‘that’s not that outstanding,’ but you’ll understand when you see it and play it.” He added “The genre is action.”

It’s good to finally pin down the style (relatively speaking; Kojima surely has a fantastically unique and trademark style for this) and who the game is meant to appeal to. It’s a wide breadth — even fromDivisiontoUncharted— but at least we know that it’ll be mainstream and probably easy to consume.

Maybe more interesting is the quote about not judging a book by its cover. A certain degree of required faith seems to surround the whole project. Kojima asks it of the audienceandhe cites it as a big reason why he signed up with Sony in the first place.

“(Others) use a Hollywood system, and I don’t like doing detailed presentation. From there, I wondered who would put their faith in me with just a rough concept, and (Sony) was who I was looking for. We get quite a lot of freedom and they’re really easy to work with,” he commented. Truthfully, anyone should be easy for Kojima to work with. With a track record like that man has, all you need to do is sit back and let him do whatever he wants.
