For some strange reason, there’s no fishing rod available in the game. That could change in the future as the early access gets more content, but it seems rather unlikely. You’ll have to use a bow and flint spear.

Getting the equipment is just one part of the task. You’ll find plenty of fish to catch in the lake, and you’ll need to use one of your two equipment. I found it easier to use an arrow for its ease.
You’ll want to catch a fish that comes closer to the surface. Otherwise, it will be impossible to aim and hit the creature while it’s in the water. For similar reasons, you’ll want to use an elevation to get a great vantage point. Additionally, it’s impossible to catch any fish in the dark.
