AsFinal Fantasy 7‘s release date draws nearer, Square Enix has been revealing more information about the highly anticipated game. In a recent Tweet, we found out more about Chocobo customization and Chocobo races.

As the Tweet reveals, you’ll be able to visit Chocobo ranches, and here you’ll find Chocoboutiques where you can customize and recolor your bird’s equipment. These options aren’t available solely for aesthetic reasons, as the gear you throw on will affect your bird’s performance in Chocobo races.

In aninterview with IGN, director Naoki Hamaguchi explained a bit more about what you can expect from Chocobos inFF7 Rebirth. There’s no Chocobo breeding this time around, though there’s still plenty to do with the birds. Hamaguchi revealed that you’ll get to enjoy an “enhanced new Chocobo capturing feature” to acquire the birds that you can then use for traversal.

He also spoke about the Chocobo races, highlighting that there will be several different tracks and varied courses available. Hence, you’ll be able to spend hours just racing the birds. Though allFinal Fantasynumbered titles are mostly self-contained, some recurring elements are present in several games, includingChocobos. They have been depicted in different ways, though they’re always adorable.

You’ll get to enjoy the big birds once again whenFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirthlaunches on July 20, 2025, on PS5.
