This is the first trailer for the upcoming indie game,Axiom Verge, a one-man project from developer Tom Happ and I’m ready to throw down some money now. A 2D, sprite-based “Metroidvania,” the trailer depicts a variety of weapons and equipment along with what appear to be many vertical shafts and some massive bosses.

Iadorethe art direction here, which calls to mindLife ForceandR-Typewhile very clearly drawing a ton of inspiration fromMetroid. Also listed as an inspiration is one of my favorite games ever,Rygar, so Happ is clearly speaking my language. We have a lengthy wait ahead, asAxiom Vergewon’t be arriving on PC and the Xbox Live Indie Games marketplace until sometime next year. What a tease.
