The end of Christopher Nolan’sBatmantrilogy,The Dark Knight Rises, squeaked by with a PG-13, but it looks like Rocksteady’sArkhamtrilogy didn’t have the same luck.Arkham Knightdirector Sefton Hill toldIGNthat the game was rated M for Mature by the ESRB.
According to Hill, like with the previous two games, Rocksteady went with the story it wanted to tell and just happened at an M rating. The team didn’t aim for it, nor are they concerned about cutting down to a possibly more sales-friendly T for Teen.
“I’m not blind to the fact that [the M rating] does mean some fans will miss out,” Hill said. “I don’t want to be oblivious to that fact. It would have been wrong to water down the game and deliver a story we didn’t believe in to keep the game ‘mass market’ or enable it for more people. We feel that’s the wrong way to go about it. We said we love the story and we don’t want to jeopardize that.”
Personally, I like that Rocksteady stuck with its story, and I don’t mind the fact that I’ll have to have my mom buy the game for me.
