♫Desert horse, ye lay ye lay♫

If I haven’t seen it, it’s new to me! There’s so muchZelda: Breath of the Wildcontent/tips/tricks to sift through, and I never once stopped to think “should I try and get a desert horse?”

Throughout all of my playthroughs, I never really put two and two together on how you may’t lead a horse to the desert. Many have tried since launch, but this clip from Bl4ckm4rs on Redditshows us that with enough glitching and gumption, you can go pretty far. At least, as far as the game will allow.

To sum up what’s happening in the video, you can utilize a jump/shrine activation glitch that lets you initiate the opening of the shrine at the same moment you’re jumping. Then you have to do a whole lot of technical trickery to fly up in the air and keep floating until you’re out of the desert, and land on a planted horse. Once you touch the ground, the game will un-glitch you back to the shrine in the same state you were in: including on top of a horse.

So with all that in mind, they managed to actually make it happen, but the horse bucks you off immediately. This is the default state of desert horse interactions inZelda: Breath of the Wild, dating back to launch. If you can spawn a horse in using mods it will just stand there, but if you interact with it in any way by riding it, it’ll take off and teleport away from the area.

This video is just particularly impressive due to the lengths they go to actually try and trigger a desert horse through legit methods. A horse in the desert? How can that be!
