Happy trees

Speaking toGame Informerin this video, Chris Charla, director of independent developers at Xbox, offers a few more details about Microsoft’s plans on working with indie developers on its new console. This is especially important after Microsoft changed its original plan and allowed for self-publishing on the console.

Charla notes that being a registered developer, a necessity to publish, “just means that they have basically signed some forms and gotten us to send them some dev kits,” which doesn’t sound overly prohibitive. There is also no exclusivity provision, which is good. The last thing Microsoft needs to do with its new console is turn its nose up at cool projects that are trying to release on multiple consoles so they have a better chance at success. “I’m there and our program is there to help them get onto the platform,” Charla said.

Charla also talked about the Xbox Live Indie Games on 360, which was a separate section that was rather buried deep within the dashboard, hurting indie sales. Self-published games and publisher-delivered games will now share space in the Microsoft game store.

Developers, shoot emails to[email protected]to talk about getting on the Xbox One. The rest of you, ten pushups and give someone you care about a compliment.
