Was it a very good year? 2021 was an interesting year for gaming. We had a lot of projects that were basically already done coming out at the start of it, anda lot of delays. It impacted the entire industry in a huge way, more so than the lull in mid-to-late 2020. That’s why our Destructoid Switch nominees for Game of the Year are so unique. Thankfully, it’s not dominated by first-party releases, and several other studios get a chance to shine....

For an MGS remake, Just Add Water Abe’s Oddysee: New n’ Tastydeveloper Just Add Water has written an open letter to Hideo Kojima. TheMetal Gearmasterbrain recently revealed he was interested in looking for a studio to remakeMetal Gear Solid, and theOddworldteam has stepped up to the plate. “We read with great excitement on VG247that you were looking for a studioto work with to develop aMetal Gear Solidremake using the Fox Engine, that your team has been hard at work creating,” wrote the studioon its blog....

Bark at the moon Over the weekend, dataminers uncovered evidence that Generation 3 Pokemon are set to creep into mobile smash-hitPokemon Goin the very near future. In the Halloween-themed update, the spooky wallpaper features a full moon silhouetting Pokemon Duskull, Sableye, Dusknoi, Banette and Shuppet. Sound files were also found for the Gen 3 crew. Though it seems Gen 3 is now ready to roll out on the MMO app, it is still likely the new critters will be drip-fed to players over time....

Pokemon ScarletandVioletare the focus An August 3Pokemonstream is confirmed!The Pokemon Company tweeted out the news this morning, noting that there will be a 9AM ET presentation on that day. The tweet says that there will be “updates onPokemonapps and video games, includingScarletandViolet,” so at least one project is called out by name. The rest is up in the air, but given the format for the past year or so, we kind of know what some of the usual suspects are....

BARF! I’m kind of at a loss for next month’s PS Plus selection. I do appreciate that Sony still bothers with the idea of free games, but just one look at the selection would make anybody sad. Credit where it’s due,Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetimelooks awesome (and was alsorecently offeredon Live Gold), but I can’t say I care even the slightest bit about the rest of this line-up. For PS4 users, you’ll be getting a pretty big month with four games available....

The Pro Edition and the Elite Edition forREMATCHare very similar in their structure, price, and content, but they do differ slightly. If you want to jump in and enjoy the early access, you can go for either the Elite or the Pro Editions. However, the in-game bonuses offered by the two editions vary slightly, making it important to decide beforehand. You can’t change your decision once you choose to go with a particular edition....

Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilightcould have been so much more than what it ended up being. What could have been a fresh, unique take on the RTS genre instead turns into an unbalanced, frustrating mess that only the most dedicated and determined players have an opportunity to really enjoy. Stay away from this one, folks — unless you’re a masochist there’s probably not going to be anything enjoyable for you in this game....

Pay to play a work-in-progress build Finji has been gradually building outOverland, its tactical squad-based survival game about trekking across an invaded North America, with a paid early-access program. There are a couple thousand players so far, and that’s by design — the developer has intentionally limited how many alpha game keys it sells. Tomorrow, though, that’s changing, and for the better. Overland‘s “First Access” program is opening up on Jun 28, 2025, so if you want to buy in to play the unfinished game, you’ll be able to do exactly that for $20 through either theofficial siteoritch....

Is this the next game from From Software? Project Beastis the rumored PlayStation 4 project by From Software, the developers behindDark Souls. Some images were supposedly leaked not too long ago,and now NeoGAFhas found four short gameplay clips. Is this actually legit? We won’t know for sure until E3 in a couple of weeks, but here are the clips for you to enjoy. Real or not, these are some great animations at least....

That world design is something else The last time I wrote aboutSamorost 3, I expressed surprise and delight that Amanita Design was making another one of these charming point-and-click adventure games. Today, a year and a half later, I could do the same — I totally forgot this project was in production. My life has reruns. The game is headed to Windows and Mac later this year with “iOS, Android, and maybe other platforms” to follow....

Inthe same day thatthe Protect IP Act has been postponed,there is newsthat Rep. Lamar Smith has chosen to shelve the Stop Online Piracy Act for the second time. He had previously promised that SOPA would get a hearing in February, but in the face of this past week, he’s dropped his babyish attitude. Smith said that he had taken criticism of SOPA into consideration and admitted that his war on piracy needs revisiting in a fresh way....
